The advocacy of marijuana legalization is only getting better with time. According to the latest Gallup poll, majority of the US adults (64%) are of the thought that federal prohibition on marijuana should end.
The poll was conducted earlier this month and showed the highest public approval for cannabis legalization in Gallup’s nearly 50 years of this type of surveys. The same survey conducted in 1969, shows that mere 12% adults in the country backed cannabis legalization. By the 1990s advocacy of cannabis began to rise and from then on steady increase in the support can be witnessed.
Political director of the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws, Justin Strekal, says that the Gallup survey has clearly given the verdict in on the legality of cannabis and it’s about time for federal government to accept people’s verdict and declare cannabis legal.

In times when most of the states are standardizing cannabis use and when about 2/3 of voter backs the legalization of adult-use cannabis, there is no tangible political, economical or conscience reason to persist with federal embargo on cannabis. According to Strekal, congressmen should conform federal laws in the light of what majority of citizens think of cannabis. He believes that it is necessary to put an end to the unnecessary criminalization of cannabis use which infringes upon public freedom, provokes contempt for law in general, and unjustly effects color communities.
Data from Gallup surveys shows a similar pattern of changing public view about same-sex marriage and cannabis use over many decades and now both issues are standing on 64% support from the US public. Another astonishing find of the survey is the altered views of Republican supporters on cannabis legalization. The republican support on the issue has gone from 9% to 51% in just one year.
Connecticut Also Gives the Verdict in Support of Legalized Cannabis

According to another survey conducted in the state of Connecticut, 71% of the state residents endorse the legalization and taxation of adult-use marijuana. The poll was carried throughout the state and there has been significant increase in the supporters of marijuana legalization in two years. Director of a cannabis support group Connecticut Coalition to Regulate Marijuana, Sam Tracy, said, ͞Elected officials should listen to their constituents and legalize marijuana in Connecticut, rather than continue to ignore this source of new jobs, new tax revenue, and improved public health. This is a clear mandate for the legislature to enact sensible marijuana laws to help the state create a workable budget
