Johnathan Sexton, and Oklahoma City man, and his 12-year-old pug, Fred, have a story to tell. Johnathan suffers from seizures, and Fred helps bring him back after those seizures according to News9. Johnathon says the smell of the pug help him start connecting the dots and coming back to reality. Fred is growing old, and losing his energy.

Fred’s veterinarian suggested CBD oil to Johnathan. Johnathan put four drops of CBD on a cracker, and says that for that entire week, “I could not get him to quit eating, and he was a youthful pug”. Veterinarians have started prescribing and stating that CBD oil can be used for various conditions in pets. Some of these include seizures, anxiety, and symptoms of cancer.

There are also a variety of studies showing how certain pets have benefitted from treatments of CBD oil. One of those studies showed that around 65% of dog and cat owners felt that hemp products either moderately or greatly helped their pets. 49% of dog owners claimed that anxiety levels were improved using CBD, and 57% of cat owners perceived that inflammation was decreased.

Other studies in that article confirm the belief that CBD is non-psychoactive and won’t get you or your pets “high”. CBD was shown to have a very high protective index, which means you can take large amounts of CBD without any toxic effects.

The New York Times has also published statements like the this one:

“To understand the effect of cannabis on animals, it helps to know a little of the science. The cannabis plant contains dozens of cannabinoids, among them THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). THC has the psychoactive properties that make people feel high but are toxic to animals.

CBD, on the other hand, offers the benefits without the buzz. Industrial hemp, used to make textiles and paper, is used in pet products, too, because its THC levels are negligible.”
