Over 5 million people in the United States suffer from fibromyalgia, despite it being idiopathic (the cause is unknown) and there not being a specific test to diagnose it. Therefore, doctors diagnose people with fibromyalgia based on their symptoms. There are no cures, and the only treatments that are used can only help improve the patient’s quality of life.

The website “Fibromyalgia Treating” reports many people turning to CBD oil/topicals to help relieve these symptoms. These patients report that it helps greatly with: “Chronic pain, sleep, endurance, anxiety, depression, inflammation, muscle spasms, overall mental health and well-being, mood, and more.”

The article also stresses the importance of quality CBD products, as the FDA has found many companies don’t contain any CBD, or any other cannabinoids. Another article discusses the efficacy of CBD as a treatment for fibromyalgia patients. This article stresses that most fibromyalgia patients confuse fibromyalgia for arthritis, bursitis, or tendinitis – mainly because they all have chronic pain.

After several examples of CBD working well, it does remind people that CBD does not work for everyone, because everyone’s body is different. It concludes by saying that CBD “Could prove to be a ‘wonder drug’ for fibromyalgia patients but it seems this can only be verified on a case-by-case basis.

Finally, this study from the National Institutes of Health claims that fibromyalgia is now believed to be a “central sensitization state with secondary hyperalgesia. Cannabinoids have similarly demonstrated the ability to block spinal, peripheral and gastrointestinal mechanisms that promote pain in headache, fibromyalgia, IBS and related disorders.”

In conclusion, this study stated that, “Migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS and related conditions display common clinical, biochemical and pathophysiological patterns that suggest an underlying clinical endocannabinoid deficiency that may be suitably treated with cannabinoid medicines.”
