Blueberry Autos for the Second Grow:
A lot of factors play vital roles in making sure that a marijuana plant makes it until harvest. There are the lights, nutrients, and of course, the grower’s passion comes to the surface. To start off, the lights give the energy that plants need to thrive in their lifetime. Nutrients provide the food that they need but the most important thing is the grower’s determination.
Most often than not, new growers get impatient with their grow journey and jump the gun. Eager not to commit any mistakes, Muffybunny started an online grow journal for his Blueberry Autos. He set on an interesting journey as growers interact, give their inputs and guide him to harvest.
Blueberry Autos for the Second Grow
Blueberry may be one of the most famous fruits in the world. It has taken a lot of form like pies, candies and now, weeds. As a marijuana strain, it gained a long-standing legendary status after winning High Times’ Cannabis Cup in 2000 for Best Indica.
It also mimics the flavors of the fruit that induces relaxing effects with long-lasting euphoria. Smoking Blueberry buds also ease pain and stress. Add the fact that the buds have colorful hues that allure the eyes.

Germination Phase
2017-08-21
Four ILGM Blueberry auto seeds germinated through the usual wet paper towel method. Using filtered water pH’d to 6.0 using pH up and down, Muffybunny also used a digital pH meter with temp to get it as accurate as possible. The moistened paper towels keep the seeds damp in a Ziploc bag wrapped in a black plastic bag. 24 hours later, the seeds cracked and it only took another day for taproots to appear.
Then, Rockwool cubes soaked in water pH’d to 6 with a little Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Grow for four hours are the seeds’ next destination. Once settled, Muffybunny got the Jiffy starter tray ready on a germination mat and placed the cubes inside.
ColoFocus 600-watt Full Spectrum LED shine five inches from the lid of the tray and are currently running on 18/6 schedule.

Four days later, the little ones grew at least one to two inches tall with at least two sets of leaves each. Muffybunny took it as a sign to move them into bigger containers. Two Blueberry Autos will grow in 5-gallon deep water hydro systems, and the other two would be in 4-gallon pots of Mills Coco Coir.
2017-08-28
One of the seedlings in the coco coir did not show any sign of progress. Muffybunny showed no remorse. Instead, he stayed positive that the yield from three plants is enough. After moving on from the incident, the remaining Blueberry Auto in coco coir received half a gallon of water but it still over flowed.
2017-08-29
Slow growth takes the patience out of the grower. ColoFocus 600-watt full spectrum LED needed to increase to encourage more growth. Now that they are working on a 24/0 schedule, the third set of leaves are finally making their way out.
- pH: 6.2 to 6.3
- Temperature: 70°F
2017-08-30
One of the Blueberry Autos in hydro grows slower than the others. Everything is the same as the other seedling in hydro, except this one has less clay underneath. Muffybunny believes this is causing the problem and would be re-packing just in case it is. Luckily, this problem arose during the early stages, and the roots have not reached the bottom of the basket yet.

Repacking the hydrotons did something special for the Blueberry Auto. It seemed a lot happier, greener and a little bit taller. However, the temperature rose to over 70°F. MuffyBunny counted on icing them for an hour to relieve them of a little bit of heat, which seemed to work fine.
Once everything calm again, the grower fed them:
- 3 mg General Hydroponics Grow Nutrients
- 2 mg Cal-Mag
- 1 mg Botanicare Liquid Karma Plant Growth Enhancer
2017-09-02
Week one of feeding the plants is finally over. During that time, the Blueberry Autos’ intake was about 50% of the recommended dosage. For the following week, the feeding would increase to at least 60%.
- 4-gallon filtered water
- 28 mL Botanicare Grow Nutrients
- 10 mL Cal-Mag
- 8 mL Botanicare Liquid Karma Plant Growth Enhancer

Four years ago, as Muffybunny sets up all these, the furnace that is three feet away, was not kept in mind. Now, it is turning out to be a real problem. The temperature keeps rising in the grow room, especially with the Blueberry Autos in hydro. It keeps rising to 70°F and lowering it down to 60°F means nonstop plunging of frozen water bottles in the water. This process is getting to be a real task that the grower cannot keep up with.
He is thinking of getting a new tent to solve this problem hopefully.
2017-09-04
After giving it a lot of thought, Muffybunny has a VIVOSUN 3’ x 3’ x 6’ mylar hydroponic grow tent coming. He also ordered one iPower 4-inch 190 CFM duct inline fan with 4-inch carbon filter to keep the unwanted odors out while maintaining the air circulation in the tent.
While waiting, the grower went ahead and gave the Blueberry Auto in coco coir one quart of water. This time, it took it without a fuss, and everything went on smoothly.
2017-09-05
Muffybunny spoke a little too soon. This morning, he saw that the coco coir made a mess once again. If not for this plant displaying signs of being a probable productive plant, it would have been long gone.
Sad to say, the heat displaced the water too. It rolled into another problem, and now, two of the plants started getting droopy including the one in coco coir. He had to tie around them to at least support the stalks.
2017-09-08
The new tent finally arrived and is ready for work. Coincidentally, tonight is the time that Muffybunny changes the water in the hydroponics grow. It may also be perfect timing to transfer the plants as well. Here’s what they look like today, right before changing the water:

The girls must be loving their new home. In only two days, their growth has been phenomenal. Aside from jumping a couple of inches taller, their leaves are indeed broader and greener. Generally, the plants all look happier and healthier than before.
2017-09-11
Muffybunny sticks with a routine to care for the plants. Twice a day, the pH level of the hydroponic containers is checked with a digital pH tester, while coco coir’s run off is inspected at least once daily. A dry meter stays put in the coco coir, but Muffybunn does not think it is accurate and would not rely highly on it. As for the rest of the week, it goes on as follows:
- Sunday and Monday: Water only
- Tuesday: Nutrients and Water
- Wednesday and Thursday: Water only
- Friday: 4-gallon flush, emptying the tub as needed and then finish with 1/2 gallon of nutrient water.
- Saturday: The girls are given a full day of rest and observation.
2017-09-13
The grower, although confused about whether he is making the right decision, went ahead and topped all Blueberry Autos.
2017-09-14
14 hours after topping, the next pictures illustrate the aftermath of the process:
However, something went wrong with leaves from one plant. Two leaves from a single plant turned brown. It’s getting Muffybunny confused because those leaves are coming from the same node.
2017-09-15
Left with no choice but to move on, Muffybunny shows the progress of topping the plants 24-hours after. The problematic hydroponic plant displayed very little recovery.
