Humulene is a prominent terpene found in That’s Natural’s products. Not only does research show that terpenes enhance the effect of each other, and other cannabinoids, but they also have amazing properties of their own!
This article discusses it’s anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties. Humulene is the terpene in sage that gives it an earthy, and woody aroma. Research has shown that Humulene has the potential to kill cancer, but it also possesses significant anti-inflammatory properties that are useful for people suffering from arthritis, bursitis, and fibromyalgia – as well as any condition that thrives from systemic inflammation.
So when is Humulene most effective for inflammation? Well, some research is showing that it is far more effective when combined with β-caryophyllene. β-caryophyllene is another terpene that some people classify as a cannabinoid. So where is the research on this terpene that shows evidence of any of this? This study shows that Humulene, by itself, reduces cancer activity by about 50%. When combined with β-caryophyllene, however, it reduces cancer growth by as much as 90%.
Another study shows that Humulene, when taken orally or by aerosol “exhibited marked anti-inflammatory properties in a murine model of airways allergic inflammation, an effect that seemed to be mediated via reduction of inflammatory mediators, adhesion molecule expression and transcription factors activation. Again, this study shows similar results. It evaluated Humulene and whether it displayed anti-inflammatory properties. The results?
“The anti-inflammatory effects of alpha-humulene and trans-caryophyllene were comparable to those observed in dexamethasone-treated animals, used as positive control drug. All these findings indicate that alpha-humulene and trans-caryophyllene, derived from the essential oil of C. verbenacea, might represent important tools for the management and/or treatment of inflammatory diseases."
