4 Most Energy Efficient Ways to Grow

There are few things more satisfying than harvesting and then smoking some good herb that you grew all by yourself. One thing that kind of sucks about growing your own weed is the energy costs. Your power bill is gonna jump about three miles high. Luckily, you can prevent this.

Stay Away From Auto Flowering Strains

Auto flowering strains are convenient, especially for first time or beginner growers because they require less work and attention than feminized, aka regular plants. The issue with auto flowering strains is that they are hell on your energy use.

This is because they require 18 or more hours of light per day, depending on the size of your grow. It would be far more energy efficient to grow feminized strains, as these only require 12 hours of light. If you can, try moving your plants outside so they can soak up some natural light during those crucial times. This will not only reduce your power bill, but produce some pretty dank buds too!

Use LED Lights

LED lights are much more energy efficient than other types of lights, so if you’re looking to cut down on your energy costs, you can’t go wrong! LED lights don’t produce as much heat as other types of lights, for example HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights. They also cool down much quicker than other types of grow lights, which goes even further in reducing your energy costs. If you’re looking for a more energy efficient indoor grow, then LED grow lights are definitely the way to go!

Try CFL Lights During Daylight

I know I said to use LED lights, but another good option to make your grow more energy efficient is to switch your grow lights for CFL during the vegetative stage, along with natural sunlight. This will drastically reduce your energy costs, and yield you some high quality buds to boot!

SCROG is Always a Good Method

When you’re looking to make your grow more energy efficient, the best way to do this is to maximize the amount of light your plants are getting, without leaving them in the light for longer. So, how do we do this? Some of you already know the answer, but most beginners will not. Your best bet will be to use the SCROG method, which will space your plants out more, allowing light more of an opportunity to reach the lower tiers of your plants.

It’s actually pretty easy to make your grow more energy efficient. As you can see you don’t have to sacrifice quality of the crop for a lower energy bill!
