The Week in Marijuana Talks and Thoughts

February 20, 2018

Cannabis has now become a topic of everyday discussions. All these deliberations from both anti and pro camps are contributing in shaping the opinion of masses regarding the substance. So, let’s have a look on different statements and thoughts aired this week by people from different walks of life on marijuana and its legalization issues:

  • Joseph A. Bondy is among the group of lawyers who have challenged the Federal classification of marijuana as Schedule I drug. This federal provision makes the life of MMJ patients very miserable. The case has a prominent plaintiff, a 12 year old epilepsy patient, who can’t travel interstate because she can’t take her MMJ medications with her because of federal restrictions.

Talking to a newspaper, Bondy says that it’s unprecedented that children are fighting the case of medical marijuana. He also acknowledges and appreciates the younger generations of color communities to stand up for their rights and challenged the government’s policies regarding marijuana, which have badly affected their predecessors:

  • Dear Abby, as we all know is an advice column appears in various newspapers in the country, answers a distressed woman who is shunned by his in-laws because of her marijuana use. Abby consoles the woman by mentioning that MMJ and adult-use cannabis is legal in her state (Nevada). So, it is only spiteful on her in-laws part that they are using her marijuana consumption to force her into isolation.
  • Berkeley, a Californian city, has recently declared itself a sanctuary city for marijuana users. This declaration will stop the city workforce to assist any federal crackdown following the annulment of Cole Memo. The city mayor, Jesse Arreguin, is of the thought that the local administration will succeed in maintaining a balance between public safety measures and stopping the federal administration from encroaching upon the local laws.
