Julian Fantino is a former cabinet minister and also served as Chief of Police of Toronto. In his tenure as police chief, he drew parallel between legalization of marijuana and legalization of murder. Moreover, he was also of the belief that legalization would be a blessing for organized crimes.
However, his change of heart occurred with the countrywide legalization of marijuana. Now he is a business partner in an MMJ company that goes with the name Aleafia. His business partner, like himself, was also a staunch supporter of war on drugs. They are the people who did nothing for legalization but are now trying to reap all the monetary benefits of the development.
A worn out excuse given by the former Toronto Police Chief is “I was just following the book of law”. He is still unable to disown his past even now when has an active participation in legalized cannabis business.
Cannabis advocates fighting for years to have this commodity legal are very critical of all the legislators and law enforcers who once opposed legalization. But, now have got on the bandwagon of a legalized business without even tendering any apology.

Jodie Emery, a cannabis activist, has exposed the identities of 17 former police officials and other law enforcement officials who have shown the same hypocrisy as of Fantino.
Secondly, all these authoritative people must acknowledge their privilege due to which they are treated differently by law. This privilege was at the demonstration when New York legislator, Steve Katz only had to pay a nominal fine and several hours of community service instead of going to jail like commoners. Remember that katz was busted with a small bag of cannabis and at that time he was a vocal cannabis opponent. Here, the two-facedness on display is quite unmistakable.
The privilege of these hypocritical higher-ups doesn’t end here, unlike his constituents; Kurtz didn’t face a job termination or had to lose the custody of his children. He didn’t even pretend to be guilty when he got busted. Instead, he changed his views regarding marijuana by citing melodramatic tales.
The changing views of Kurtz show that some politicians take their constituents for a fool. Now, the man is not only a marijuana supporter but also a venture capitalist in the industry.

Nonetheless, there are some individuals with conscience. Howard Woolridge was a former Michigan Cop who has been advocating legalization for nearly 15 years. In his days in the service, he understood that the war on drugs was just a fruitless exercise.
He also made an organization with other likeminded police officers with the name Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. He is not using his advocacy to get monetary benefits by getting involved in cannabis business.
With every passing day, legalization is becoming an undeniable reality. Lawmakers and law enforcers who once acted as cannabis antagonist can follow the model of atonement practiced by Barry Cooper. Cooper is an ex-cop, once known as a top Narc, who changed his thoughts about marijuana after a personal experience. Now he is dedicated to helping cannabis felons through his witness firm.
