When cultivating cannabis indoors, the limited grow space needs something extra. This is where CFLs come in!
CFL stands for “compact fluorescent light.” They produce the ideal light spectrum for growing weed indoors. CFLs have several benefits. They’re cheap, easy to find in stores, and suitable for small grow spaces like the inside of a grow tent or a cupboard.
CFL is the perfect choice if you’re planning to harvest around 1 to 3 ounces of bud, and want to try growing cannabis without investing too much.
This grow journal centers of growing Afghan Kush strain using 100W CFLs.
The Afghan Kush is easy to grow and can reach heights of 30 to 78 inches. A single plant can yield 3 to 6 ounces per square foot after a flowering period of 7 to 9 weeks.
Grower: Dro92
Yield: 1.5 ounces (dry weight)
Location: NA
Seeds: Afghan

The two Afghan Kush plants are almost 4 weeks old. Both are watered around 2 times per week. Light is provided by a 100W CFL which is 2 inches away from the plants at an 18/6 schedule. Sometimes, the plants are transferred outside for some natural sunlight.
August 1st
It’s been exactly a month since the plants saw the light of day. They continue to grow at the same pace. They’re already starting to release some odor.
Unfortunately, this plant is starting to turn yellow. It seems she damaged her stem after something fell on her. Added a bit more nutes and have been extra careful with it. Hopefully this one can still make it and overcome its stress.
August 9th
Starting to worry whether these babies are male or female. One of them is more mature than the other and it seems like it’s starting to show signs of its true gender: MALE!
It hurts but it’s not really that much of a loss when you consider the knowledge gained from cultivating him. Only one plant is left for this grow journal and hopefully she’s a full-bodied female!
August 18th
This experience is super dope! She grew so much in such little time. Everything has been going too well. She already has 5 nodes and should be ready for transplant in a few weeks.
August 23rd
Ended up transplanting this girl earlier than desired but she’s thriving in her new pot. Today is Day 2 in her new home and she’s clearly loving it. Here are some photos of how she’s looking now. You can clearly see she added more sets of leaves.
September 3rd
Her growth has picked up dramatically after the transplant. Since she’s growing indoors, she has very little space to stretch. Hence, she needs to go through the flowering stage soon.
October 4th
It’s almost 2 weeks since she reverted to the flower light cycle. She’s only beginning to show little buds now.
