November 02, 2017 Pennsylvania

After the success of pilot program, the state of Pennsylvania has moved forward with establishing an online registry to aid people with marijuana use in their medical conditions. The state Health Department will now be able to receive applications from the patients who want to participate in the program through a separate section which was set up on the State’s official website.

According to the target date set by the department, the MMJ patients will be able to obtain marijuana medication from May 1 throughout the state.

The second grower and processor establishment has also been approved by the officials to be built in the borough of White Haven, Luzerne County. The first grower and processor establishment in Brookville had already been announced in the start of October. Pennsylvania health department has also announced the first batch of approved physicians who can prescribe medical marijuana to the patients. The list produced by the department of health has the addresses of these 100 doctors. It is expected that the entries in the list will get doubled in coming days.

For the successful execution and viability of the program, the active partaking of doctors is very important because of their link between patients and medical marijuana. Health department will only issue IDs to the patients who have doctor’s certification to use medical marijuana for the given illness.

According to the previous years’ state legislation, patients under physician’s care can have access to medical cannabis if doctor qualifies them as per any of the 17 medical qualifying conditions. Some of the conditions include autism, Cancer, visceral pains of chronic nature and AIDs.

One patient of late-stage HIV, Adrienne Leasa was present on the press conference where these new developments were announced. She told that daily marijuana use helped him to fight HIV-related depression. She was of the thought that legalized program would further help in improving her life.

“It will make me no longer a criminal, first of all. Second, it will make it easier to find specialized products that are not always available on the black market.”

Mike Folmer, the Republican senator from the city of Lebanon who is the prime force behind the state’s legislation appreciated the efforts of common citizens who strived for many years and convince the lawmakers to act in the right direction. Most of these grassroots cannabis advocates were the parent of ill children.

He said, “We are on the verge of getting the program up and running and I am looking forward to when this valuable medicine — and I mean medicine — will be in patients’ hands.”

Pennsylvania medical marijuana law allowed patients to consume cannabis in the form of oils, vapors and pills. Patients are not allowed to cultivate their own plants or to consume marijuana in plant form. As of now, the state has issued more than 300 letters to protect parents from criminal decree if they are getting marijuana to treat medical condition of their children.
