It used to be that we were told cannabis was bad for us. Among the things I was taught was that it depleted your IQ, made you forget things, made you lazy, and it made you overeat. Now, people are using cannabis to get healthier, and they are seeing a lot of positive results! So how are people using cannabis to get healthier?
They’re Quitting Smoking
It might sound weird, smoking weed to quit smoking cigarettes, but this is one of the ways people are using cannabis to get healthier. A study from last year showed that CBD, the non psychoactive cannabinoid present in cannabis can be used to help fight addiction, including nicotine addiction. I don’t think I have to tell you that this is a very difficult habit to give up, but it works! I know because that’s how I was able to quit smoking! Of course it’s best to consume cannabis through ways other than smoking it. What worked for me was vaping it, but others have found success using CBD oil.
Treating Inflammation
Inflammation is one of the leading causes of medical conditions such as arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Studies have shown that THC lessens the effects of inflammation, including preventing the autoimmune disruption common of inflammation. This means that THC can be used to help treat people with autoimmune disorders such as lupus, arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, and even HIV/AIDS. Fighting inflammation is one of the ways that cannabis can be useful in preventing cancer.
They’re Using it to Lose Weight
Cannabis, a substance that is typically associated with eating too many snack foods, can actually be a handy tool for weight loss. Surprising as it may sound, this is one of the ways people are using cannabis to get healthier. The American Journal of Medicine reported that people who use cannabis tend to be thinner and have a lower BMI (Body Mass Index) than people who don’t. This is because cannabinoids help speed up metabolism. Not to mention, exercise and cannabis seem to go hand in hand, as physical activity actually enhances the effects of THC. Besides, not all strains will give you the munchies.

To Ease the Effects of Aging
A study out earlier this year showed that cannabis can help slow down the aging process, by enhancing cognitive functions in elderly people, in particular those that deal with memory and learning. Older mice who were given low doses of THC performed better on memory and learning based tests. The interesting thing about this study is that cannabis only works this way with older brains. The younger the mice were, the lower their performances were. If you are concerned about the effects of aging on your memory as you get older, then it maybe try using cannabis more often.
