You know things are headed in the right direction when the World Anti-Doping Agency—WADA—removes CBD from the list of substances that are prohibited. CBD now lays among a group of cannabinoids like spices.
In other words, it is not prohibited anymore. Synthetic cannabidiol comes from cannabis plants varies in THC concentration. THC tends to remain prohibited. This may not be of much concern to a regular user, but for athletes, it demands more care. THC is something that sports don’t allow, and if an athlete is to consume a CBD product, he or she needs to ensure that it does not contain THC at all.
A decent threshold, however, is 150 nanograms of THC for every mm of blood. These numbers have been collectively stated by WADA and Nevada Athletic Commission. This is a threshold that will ensure that people who have consumed cannabis in the weeks leading up to cannabis don’t turn out positive for the drug tests. In other words, this is the amount that can be consumed by athletes.

Back in 2012, there were only four people who were caught for the consumption of cannabis prior to the games. Ben Nichols is a spokesperson for WADA. He talked on the matter saying,
“Our information suggests that many cases do not involve game or event-day consumption. The new threshold level is an attempt to ensure that in-competition use is detected and not use during the days and weeks before competition”
In 2016, the infamous fighter Nate Diaz was investigated when he came to the post-match press conference smoking a vape. Upon being questioned, he said that it is only a vape and helps in the process of healing. WADA also spoke on the matter saying that recreational drugs are no longer what they were back in the day.

WADA said that this is a topic that is still open to debate, which means that about it is certain at the moment. CBD is not a performance enhancer in any way. It means that it is safe to use it in between trainings. However, this doesn’t mean that the athletes should go overboard. If too much of the drug is found in their system, there is a good chance that they will be penalized.
