After becoming the 24th state in the US to legalize medical marijuana, Pennsylvania will finally witness the production of medical marijuana at the first marijuana growing site of the state. Health Department sieved through several applications to choose the first growing site of the state.
Cresco Yeltrah, the company who has got the approval to set up a marijuana growing site, claims to be the “Illinois’s larger medical cannabis brand”.
Apart from establishing a growing facility, Cresco will also build dispensaries in the state. Locations of two dispensaries have been disclosed, one will be in Pittsburgh district and other will be in Butler County. Medical marijuana will be grown in Cresco’s facility located in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. The site had to go through quite a few checks before the final approval from Department of Health.
As soon as the company received its permit, construction of facility spread over 40,000 sq.ft started. A full growth cycle of weed plant takes nearly four months which means the final medicinal marijuana will be on shelves not before February.

Pennsylvania’s acting health secretary, Rachel Levine, claimed that her department was positive that at least 11 new processers/growers will start producing medical marijuana. In a statement, she said, “We are working with them, as well as the dispensaries, to ensure the program stays on track. Patients are our first priority, and we want to get medication to them as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Most of the medical cannabis establishments in the state are part of the “seed-to-sale” system. This system has put in place to track all cannabis items from farming to the finished product sale so that none of the cannabis can seep into the unregulated black market.
First Medical Marijuana Media Campaign in Pennsylvania
Cresco have spent around half a million dollars advertising medical marijuana in a campaign named “Welcome to a State of Relief”, showing that they are completely invested into medical cannabis for patients in Pennsylvania. This ad campaign will be covered through magazines, newspapers, billboards and social media.
Cresco started this campaign even before getting the nod of approval for the growing facility. According to company’s CEO, “It’s not too early because this is not a product-focused campaign. It’s to let people know about the program.”
