White Widow Autos for Growingherbies’ First Cultivation:
They say a name makes one’s identity. Growingherbies is on the way to marching up to his by taking the first step towards his first cannabis adventure. Nurturing marijuana plants can be tricky. It requires a lot of mental, physical and financial preparation. When the time comes, it also needs lots of time and attention. The equipment and nutrients require constant trial and error too.
On I Love Growing Marijuana’s forums, a grow journal dedicated entirely to this new grower’s White Widow Autos grow adventure. It served as a channel where growers shared their experiences and guidance on how Growingherbies could have a successful grow. The question is, was he really able to have a successful one?
Growingherbies’ White Widow Autos
No clear emergence can be reported on how White Widows came about. The only thing that experts can agree on is that it became famous when it started circulating Dutch coffee shops in the early 90’s. It also rose to fame in 1995 when it won the legendary High Times Cannabis Cup.
Smokers are naturally drawn to the white resin that covers the entire bud. As if a warning of the impending high THC impact that’s about to come. A quick smoke of its conical-shaped bud is a burst of powerful euphoria and energy that stimulates creativity.
Smokers would also enjoy the fact that White Widows are relatively easy to grow, especially auto flowering seeds that require less labor. This strain usually gives growers high yielding plants. On the average, it goes from one to three ounces per square feet.

White Widow Autos are already buried in pots. Growingherbies has them on top of stools to boost their heights and get them closer to the lights. They are about 5” from the soil and those 400-watts LED lights from Amazon help maintain the temperature at 74°F and the humidity at 40%.

Lights are set to run from 5 am to 11 pm, but with the sprout still not coming up he had to extend until midnight. Thus, the light schedule is at 18/6 and it probably would not matter since these are auto flowering seeds.
The plants were watered until they are completely saturated so it would not take that long.

Finally, sprouts are here. One with a leaf, and one with barely any just a tiny curl that resembles a leaf. The bigger one is christened with the name “Snoop” and the smaller one is “Martha”.

Growingherbies is giving himself a pat on the back. Massive amounts of research resulted in a great set-up that’s praised by a lot of veteran growers. Two stools, a 2’ x 2’ x 4’ and lights to sustain the sprouts for now, although the humidifier should arrive tomorrow. Humidity has been stable at 40 to 55% but the fan is giving him a hard time by drying the air sometimes.
Anyway, Martha was distinctly bigger three days ago but Snoop was able to catch up. Actually, Snoop is bigger than her sister now:
Visually, it is a little hard to see if Martha is really in the picture. However, their grower attest that she is there, a tiny sprout but with no leaves still.

The White Widow Auto seedlings are barely in their second week and yet Growingherbies is much more eager now that Martha and snoop are really out. One small humidifier is all set-up and it is still difficult to raise the humidity to 60% because of the fan. Hopefully, the bigger humidifier arrives before it’s too late.
Also, apparently the reason why Martha has no leaf appearing is because she is still hanging to her seed pod. It’s gone now and she has opened up a bit since then. This one also grew out of the side of her germination pod.

Little humidifier is finally getting the hang of it and increased the humidity to 53% to 57%. Maybe putting it on the floor did the job but the bigger humidifier is still arriving tomorrow. Martha is going to love it since Growingherbies transplanted her yesterday from her 1-gallon pot to a 2.5 gallon one.
After throwing out all the soil, Martha is now buried in Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil. Watered down until she is fully saturated while Snoop only receives misting 2 to 4 times a day. Misting depends on whether Growingherbies is home or not. Good thing that she is way past the seed cot locking. Even though she is a little lopsided from the germination pod, this little seedling is thriving with a couple of leaves.
Snoop, on the other hand, flourishes on her own. Growingherbies has not done anything special for her except the routine of watering and transplanting when needed.

Everything has been smooth sailing for Snoop. The leaves are spreading and getting greener each day while Martha only started fanning out and that is still better than nothing.

The bigger humidifier also arrived yesterday but it is not up for the cut. While it does increase the humidity, refilling it every five to six hours is too much work for Growingherbies. He’s actually okay if he decides to return it because the humidity today is at 55% without humidifier.

Martha who is in the red pot, is still lagging but at least she grew a couple of leaves and inches too.
Meanwhile Snoop in the gray pot is still bigger and she has more leaves than her sister but Growingherbies is pretty confident that Martha would catch up eventually.

Resiliency may be Martha’s strongest characteristic. Snoop is on the third set of leaves already and Martha, as surprising as it may be is doing the same thing. A while back, this strong weed barely had leaves on her after getting caught up with the seed cot.
2017-04-13
Growingherbies would need to do a lot of light height adjusting in the future. A pulley system would make things easier. As of the moment, the LED lights were lowered from 24 inches to 12 inches, closer to the plants.
The humidifiers also died and another purchase was needed. Indeed, the new one works better and keeps the humidity at 55 to 60% and the temperature at 72 to 75%.

Martha has caught up with Snoop, she may even be bigger now. She also reaches for the lights so Growingherbies is hoping that would straighten her. Now that she is getting taller, lights would need to be adjusted again. However, those are a little crooked because of the pulley, otherwise the lights are doing a great job.

A couple of yellow spots appeared on both White Widow Autos. Martha has it in the middle and Snoop has a little bit on the edge of one of the leaves. Nutrient burn is out of the question since Growingherbies does not feed them yet.
“My guess is it burned because the LED lights were on,” Bob 31 continued. “the water on the leaves caused the burns.”
2017-04-24
New growths do not receive that much light under the canopy. As a remedy, Growingherbies tied the tops for some low stress training (LST) and let light penetrate unreachable areas.

Two days ago, the White Widow Autos received LST from their grower. Today, the leaves were removed to let the plants do their own thing until Growingherbies decides whether to scrog (SCReen of Green) them or not. However, as he was untying them Martha’s top was accidentally snapped off.

Sprouting those White Widow Auto seeds were a victorious moment alone for this rookie grower. When the milky white crystalized hairs that symbolize flowering showed this morning, Growingherbies was beyond excited.
Martha’s accidental topping did not affect her as much except made her a little bushy than Snoop. In terms of main cola size, Snoop’s is bigger but both have visible buds developing.
